Hip is getting better

Well, my hip is starting to feel a little better. Yesterday a couple friends and I did a 12.1 mile run. It was about 8 degrees when we started out and we had a horrible time keeping a pace faster than 10 mm. On the way back, however, we picked it up and kept an 8 mm pace. Our overall pace for the run came out to be a 9:10 mm, which is great considering we had such a hard time for the first 6 miles. Most of the run, I felt fine. When we got to about 4.5 miles, the trail was very icy and had huge frozen tire treads. Since the surface was so uneven, my legs were getting thrown around and my hip started hurting. I stretched it out at the turn around and once again at mile 10, and I think that did the trick. I didn't have any pains when I was done. I'll have to keep stretching it out on a regular basis and I think the problem will be solved. Thank goodness!

This week, I plan on doing some speed work, a spin class, my normal lifting and/or class and a few other runs. If I find the time, I will do my stair workout as well. I just haven't been finding time to work out regularly lately. It's been very hit or miss. So this week, I will get back into the swing of things!

Been so busy!

I've been so busy. A lot has been happening the last couple weeks. After the Rescue Run, I have some horrible upper back/shoulder/neck pain. I'm sure it was mainly because of the three times I almost fell down. And of course, carrying around two kids all the time just added to the tightness. So I did get a massage and it did wonders! I felt like brand new again!

I've been sticking to my exercise goals. Last week I did some speed work and my left hip started hurting. It has been going away and coming back again. After I ran the ADT half marathon, I had the same type of pain but in my right hip. I'm sure part of it has to do with my body getting back to normal, but I've also been doing a strength class that has us doing lots of lunges, squats, jumping jacks, etc. I think the class is triggering it. I need to strengthen my hips, but I'll have to take it easy during the class. I plan on doing upper body strength today. I was supposed to run tomorrow, but I think I should take a break. If I run tomorrow, I'll probably need to take a few days off and I want to run on Sunday with the ladies. I'm going to take a few days off from running and see how it feels Sat night. I may still need to cancel Sunday... we'll see how it goes.

Started the year off right!

Well I started the year off right today by running a 10k. It was a fun run. Too much ice and snow to push myself too hard, but I was still able to make good time. I finished in 55:26, which is pretty good for what I was running on. Last week a girl friend and I ran the course in under 54, so I was thinking I could do it around 52... that was before all the snow. After we got more snow, I changed my mind about what I expected my time to be. I thought I would be doing pretty well if I did 56, so the 55:26 makes me happy. I even won a free lift ticket! It's a good thing I hung around for the door prizes.

Since the new year is here, I have to set a few goals. This is what I have for my fitness goals so far:

1. Run 3 times a week.
2. Do 1 spin class a week.
3. Strength train 3 times a week (class or weights)
4. Do yoga daily, even if it is a 20 minutes session to start the day or relax at the end of the day.

And for 2007 races, I have:

1. St Patrick's Day 5k (it's something fun to do before the parade)
2. Garden of the Gods 10 mile (TC Series)
3. Summer Round up 12k (TC Series)
4. Pikes Peak Ascent (TC Series)
5. ADT Half Marathon (only because I did it when Miles was 3 months and I want to see how I do when I've really trained for it)
6. PPRR Fall Series

It is a pretty full year I have planned for myself. My goal is to stay strong and keep at it. I want to avoid injuries!
